Announcing CMS Made Simple 1.6.6 - Bonde

This is primarily a bugfix release again... trimming off of the issues that our users have encountered, particularly those related to those using pretty urls which append a / to all the urls (I still don't know why people do this.... why not use .php or .html for extensions, I dunno).
Additionally, we think we've solved once and for all an issue that caused the imagemanager to redirect back to the admin login form... and why some people had problems getting the wysiwyg editor to work. it was related to their hosts not having session.use_cookies enabled. This is not a recommended setting, and although we've added in some code to let this work in the short term, we will not be supporting it in future versions of CMSMS. So please everybody, make sure your hosts turn this on.

- #4068 Admin Log, update "HTML Blob" to "Global Content Block"
- #4118 die() with blank page
- Fix problem with showinmenu for separators.
- Fix error pages being able to be set inactive in listcontent.
- Fix error in permissions checking for copying content.
- Fixes issues with the PDF output only working of the pdf flag was turned OFF
- Submit is not taken on forms, when .htaccess is used and page_extension = ''.

NOTE: This is not a recommended setting, and future versions of CMSMS will not in any way
support this setting. Please contact your hosts to ensure that this setting is enabled
properly.
- This issue has probably been the cause of many tinyMCE issues in the past.
- The install and upgrade routines will fail if this setting is off
- The install and upgrade routines now explicitly check for this setting.
- TinyMCE 2.2.5 now supports session.use_cookies == off (for now)
- ImageManager no longer displays the login screen with session.use_cookies == off

Imagine you have pruducts and products category. If I used '.html' as my pages would look like 'category.html' and 'category/product.html'. As you might see, now category is a subpath and it's index should be 'category/index.html' which has been abbreviated to 'catagory/'. So in theory the logical correct extension would be '/' for all parent pages and '.html' (or whatever) for all pages without children imho.. To maintain a correct hierachy in the URL I therefore use '/' instead of anything else.

Because it is much better for offline marketing i.e. www.mysite.com/jobs is better than people having to remember the extension as well.

/ is not a page extension it is most times considered a path to a folder that has a page in it, like you say categories/product.html, altho in most sites it is an actual folder CMS Made Simple works a bit differently as there are no folders with flat file html pages in them you can still set it up to look like one.

How many people do you think really remember a site URL?
Not many that I know of, if they like it and will come back often they will bookmark it.

Only 10 releases so far, not too bad, how many do you think M$ has done in the same time span, and you would think with all that money they could get it right the first few times.
Most of the releases are an enhancements, some are fixes for something not working as it should, sorry but they can't just let this stuff slide till 6 months from now, unless you want to handle all the complaints from the other users that don't think it should wait, it only takes about 15 minutes to upgrade a site even at 100 that's only 1500 min. = 25 hours.
The Packt awards I think were skewered this year as even the top 2 from last year didn't make it into the finals so they made a new one for them, did you vote for CMS Made Simple?
At the time of making the blog part of cmsmadesimple.org there was no blog module, now that there is one I'm sure they are thinking of moving it to that module so it will be run on a cmsms module.

Most of the release of cmsms are FIXING release. Personally unless the release address a security fix or a fix for a functionality that I often use/cause me problems I do not upgrade.
For instance this release do not bring any "problem solving" to me according to the release note. Therefore I am not going to upgrade.
But I recognize that some fixes can be very important for some other people.
Before complaining about often release try to see how is annoying having a bug that prevent you to do something and you know you must wait 4 or 6 month because some people think that 2 release per year are sufficient. Believe me in this way cmsms project would close in less that 2 years.
I am happy to see that developer are active and reactive towards users problems, and I think everyone should be happy about that.

CMS Made Simple is brilliant - every person i have madea site for loves it and feels comfortable with it in minutes - compared to other CMS's it is fantastic.

From the user's perspective they don't care how the page is produced, they just want to be able to find it with a minimum of fuss. From the developer's perspective best you don't tie yourself to a page technology in the locator syntax - think of all the broken links when you move from html to php to py etc. Hide it, and enjoy freedom of implementation technologies, which definitely change over time.
