CMS Made Simple 1.5.1 – San Juan
December 4th, 2008 by Robert CampbellIt never fails…. even though we have a lengthy beta cycle, and we try as hard as we can to get people to test there are always a few things that just don’t get tested. So though 1.5 was largely stable, we’ve fixed a handful of things (most of them were one line fixes), and fired out 1.5.1.
We had a minor emergency. We found another bug just minutes after we released the original 1.5.1, so we quickly took down the announcements, removed the files, fixed the bug, and started again. What a panic that was!!
Here’s a brief list of what has changed:
- News 2.9.1
– Fixes to permissions checks
– Additional help about the dateformat and formatpostdate stuff being removed
- Fix sql error in listcssassoc
- Fix missing username in admin header on login of new session.
- Fix to expand all/collapse all icons in listcontent.
- Fix to the edit tag.
- Fix to the cancel button in user preferences
- Minor adjustment to security key checks.
- Fix bug in stylesheet associations.
This release does include diff packages. Please use the base diff package if you downloaded and installed the base package. use the full-diff package if you downloaded and installed the full package. You are also encouraged to update the language packs that you may need (with the base version), as a few things have also been translated.
Even though there are no database changes in this release, as always, you are encouraged to do a full backup before you upgrade.
Enjoy!

Argh, I knew that would happen – and just when I finished updating an old 1.01 site to 1.5 mere minutes before this post
Ah well it was an easy update at least. Thanks for all the great work guys

Yippee – Module Manager on existing sites is working again too. Regarding the release of 1.5.1 – I don’t think you’ll find anyone complaining too much – I for one really appreciate all the hard work you guys put in to this. But you know you are fast running out of major release versions before reaching 2.0!!

Thanks again for all the hard and good work, but… still installation problems.
Error message:
Test for remote URL
Outgoing http connections do not appear to work! There is a firewall or some ACL for external connections?. This will result in module manager, and potentially other functionality failing.
I contacted my provider again and got the same answer as before: they do not want to change settings for security reasons.
Can I switch off this test or leave out this function before installing?

Still doesn’t work. Even after clearing cache when calling
http://localhost/cms/stylesheet.php?cssid=48&mediatype=screen
All I get is
/* Start of CMSMS style sheet ” */
/* End of ” */

I’m a big CMSMS fan and very appreciative of the time and resources put in by the development team. Love the direction 1.4 was going but I’m vexed with a few new developments of 1.5.1 as noted below.
>RSS is gone from news? I’m hoping this will be recognized in later versions as a bad idea . . . RSS use is going nowhere but up in the future. It’s good that there is a stack of two modules to create RSS feeds but they are of no use to me since it feeds can only be created from the summary fields which I always thought were superfluous to begin with. Relying on 2 modules for such basic functionality is disconcerting since modules have traditionally been the weak point of CMSMS.
>Image and Thumbnail fields in page edit. Why muck up CMSMS’ beautiful clean page edit with these? I really don’t get the necessity of the fields in general and especially in page edit view . . . at best they’re confusing for most users.
>Contact Form tag gone. Almost all sites have a contact form which is the reason I assume it has been included in all prior versions. Granted this is a relatively minor annoyance in the big scope of CMSMS’ virtues, but it is another example of having to install yet another module for a basic function which adds time and complexity to bring a site to basic functionality.
My feedback is offered with respect and appreciate to CMSMS . . . thanks again to all who have made it such a great cms.

Thanks for the hard work guys!
I have one question: what happened with the dateformat and formatpostdate functions?
And how can I get the dates back at the top of my news messages?
