Announcing CMS Made Simple 1.4.1 “Spring Garden”

August 9th, 2008 by Robert Campbell

This is largely a bugfix release to wrap up the 1/2 dozen or so (mostly minor) issues we found with the 1.4 release. Here’s a list of what has changed:

Version 1.4.1 “Spring Garden”
—————————–
- Fixes an issue with the “name” parameter being broken on the stylesheet tag
- Fixes an issue with changing group permissons on windows hosts
- Fixes an issue with group assignment
- Fixes a hard-coded table prefix in the css associations stuff
- Fixes a problem with REQUEST_URI not being set on IIS hosts (stupid windows)
- TinyMCE: Fixed problem with cmslinker not allowing to select parentpages
Fixed a small bug which could cause invalid relative urls to be generated
- A couple more small things…

Thanks everyone for the development of CMS made simple. Using it on two sites and i am very happy with it!
I had subscribed to the mailing list but did not receive any notification about this update (same thing with Jamaica release) - what’s wrong?

  2. calguy1000 Says:

The reason that the mailing announcement didn’t get sent out is because… well, I don’t have access to the mailing list…. and quite honestly, I forgot to even ask Ted about it.

The release process (though simpler than it used to be)… is still quite complex… there are like 7 or 8
    steps.
    a) create_cms_release.sh
    b) (optional) create_diff_release.sh
    c) create_forge_release.sh
    d) tweak the announcement in the irc channel
    e) tweak the download link in the front page
    f) make a blog announcement here
    g) make an announcement in the forum
    h) update the mailing list

(and that’s the optimized list). Soon we’ll be moving the mailing list over to use NMS on the main site, and hopefully soon we can use news for the blog, etc. and maybe script some of the other stuff, I don’t know. and then it may get simpler

For now, I suggest you just point an RSS aggregator at the announcements forum, or at the blog to stay tuned for updates.

    Hi to you all,

anything wrong with the forge? Can’t download or connect to the side.

    Error:
CMSMS Forge Could Not Connect to Database:

    Regards

First of all thanks for all the efforts you guys put into this great cms!! I’ve been working with it for a while now and I like it a lot.

I am however trying to get a hold of the latest version, but keep getting an error at this moment while trying to access the download page. “CMSMS Forge Could Not Connect to Database: ”

By any chance this is to be ‘fixed’ anytime soon?

    Thanks!

  5. Nico Says:

Okay, thanks. I will add the feed to my RSS aggregator.

Why CMS Made Simple version 1.4 and 1.4.1 reset the search template? Great new theme in admin panel :)

  7. Barry Cooper Says:

    Thanks for this great CMS

Is there a problem with installing 1.4 and 1.4.1 - I have used both as upgrades and they work fine.
But if I try to install either 1.4.1 the installer gets stuck at stage 1. I have installed 1.3.1 and upgraded to 1.4.1.

    Thanks

After reading the documentation, managing not to be put off by the awful video “tutorials” I decided that CMSms could be the perfect solution to a couple of upcoming projects, only to find that none of the download links work! That does not fill me with confidence! Will it be possible to download anytime soon?

Thanks again for the nice job you are doing with this lovely system. I am very eager to see the v 2.0. But there seems to be one module that has not been working for quite a while: Page Blocks. It is a very needed function for me among others. I wonder if it will be fixed soon? Many threads regarding this subject is posted in the forum the last few days, so this is something that many people needs.

I am not sure where to post specific “inquries” like this, so I try here… hope it is not too disturbing.

Just in case anybody else is having problems upgrading from an old version…

I upgraded to 1.4.1 from 1.2.4 and encountered 2 problems that were easily fixed once I worked out the cause:

    1) Problem: When I tried to edit the css associations for a template I got an error message.
To fix I added assoc_order column to css_assoc as an int(11) with NULL = Yes and the error message went away.
    2) Problem: The CMS ‘internal linking’ button wasn’t appearing in the Tiny MCE editor. To fix I changed the value half way through in Toolbar 2 on the admin page Extentions > TinyMCE > Advanced from cmsmslink to cmslinker.

I did run the upgrade script successfully which took me from schema 29 to 31.

  12. Lincoln Phipps Says:

Upgrade from 1.3.1 to 1.4.1 trivially completed. The new admin feature of getting checksums for your web site (Site Admin -> System verification) works a dream and actually gets the checksums for the whole site including other subdirectories unrelated to CMS Made Simple (I have 25,000 files over 4000 folders on around 4 different CMS so quite a lot of places to hide). This is a very cool feature and saves me having to run diffs on my directory tree after I see odd looking traffic in Apache access logs. I use my web site to host experimental stuff for other CMS other than CMS Made Simple and on an hourly basis some idiot is trying SQL injections. It’s amazing when you backtrack and look at where they host the exploits they are injecting just how many compromised servers and accounts there are on the ‘net.

  13. northshorefiend Says:

and svn doesn’t seem to work either

    > ~/tmp $ svn checkout http://svn.cmsmadesimple.org/svn/cmsmadesimple/tags/version-1.4.1/
    > svn: REPORT request failed on ‘/svn/cmsmadesimple/!svn/vcc/default’
    > svn: Can’t find a temporary directory: Internal error

  14. Richard Patient Says:

Why are you using Wordpress for your blog, when you could use the CMS blog for your use?

  15. Aaron K Says:

I’m with Richard… why don’t you drink your own Kool-Aid? you’re using WP when you could use your own CMS? What gives?

  16. Lance Says:

CMSMS is still working out the kinks for the blog part, it’s really a CMS, not a blogging tool.

  17. Daniel Says:

The simple answer of that is that simple CMS is a CMS and WP is a blog software.
